Firm offers to audit NAIA power facilities for free

-

MANILA, Philippines - Power Generation of the Philippines Inc. (PowerGen), a company supplying electricity at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) complex, is proposing to conduct an energy audit at all NAIA facilities free of charge.

Fidel S. Correa, president of PowerGen, the embedded independent power producer of Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), said the audit will help avert similar radar glitches encountered by air traffic controllers last Sunday.

Correa said the services they are offering would include the assessment of all the facilities of MIAA to assess the latter’s electrical systems and propose solutions to inadequacies and inefficiencies.

PowerGen has supplied continuous  and reliable power to the airport complex. It is offering its expertise to prevent a similar incident that led to the cancellation of dozens of domestic and international flights last Sunday.

He clarified that PowerGen had nothing to do with the technical problems that beset the Air Transportation Office (ATO) last Sunday  which caused the failure of ATO’s communications and radar systems.

“In that specific period, PowerGen was operating without interruption. Throughout the alleged blackout, Powergen’s generators were fully operational, producing almost 3,000 kilowatts and delivered  67,917 kilowatt-hours of electricity to MIAA,” he said. – Donnabelle Gatdula
