The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), the countrys power sector watchdog, is aiming to become Asias benchmark in power regulation, the top ERC official said.
ERC chairman Rodolfo Albano Jr. said while this is a daunting task, but it is not an impossible vision amid a number of challenges being faced by the electric power industry.
To achieve this goal, Albano said the commission will put premium importance on the training and development of its leaders.
He said the ERC recently conducted a leadership training program with the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Policy Center supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Energy and Clean Air Project (ECAP).
Albano said the training is part of a long-term leadership development program that the ERC will embark on with the help of AIMs expertise in developing effective managers and leaders.
As a first step towards molding new leaders in the power sector, key leadership values were discussed during the training by foremost policy discussion authorities led by Federico Macaranas of the AIM Policy Center, and Antonio La Viña and Onofre R. Pagsanghan of Ateneo de Manila University.
"The ERC is committed to bring innovations to its services and fulfill its responsibilities, emphasizing that protecting the consumers is a vital part of ERCs vision and mission," Albano said.
