BayanTel completes optical network

-
Bayan Telecommunications (BayanTel) announced recently the completion of its metro-broadband optical network aimed at delivering very high speed connectivity to corporate customers.

The network provides BayanTel the capability to deliver high bandwidth services in an easy and cost efficient manner such as Fast Ethernet (100 mbps) and Gigabit Ethernet (1,000 mbps) as well as clear channel service such as DS3 (45 mbps) and STM1 (155 mbps).

BayanTel vice president for product development Joevel Rivera said that the enhanced network addresses the new business-critical applications used by corporate enterprises that demand higher bandwidth and better resiliency.

"Our new network supports Metro Ethernet connectivity; allowing companies to cost effectively expand their wide area network (WAN) easily with minimal investment as it runs in native Ethernet.  As a key differentiation, the network protection is via SDH or Synchronous Digital Hierarchy.  This technology provides seamless transfer of data traffic via a secondary route in case connectivity problems are experienced via the primary route.  The built-in redundancy is part of the service and is not an "extra" option that customer will have to pay a premium," Rivera noted.

Rivera explained that BayanTel’s approach is to allow customers the freedom to develop and deploy applications without worrying about limitations on connectivity and budget.  The network can easily support connectivity for applications such as ERP, Internet, Intranet, traditional voice, VoIP, and video.  The network can also support Bandwidth on Demand providing the flexibility for users to upgrade their connectivity whenever it is required.  This is particularly useful for LAN to LAN connections supporting Business Continuity Programs and long-haul transmission of DVD quality video.

The network is currently deployed in more than a dozen buildings in Makati, Ortigas, and Eastwood Park.  As demand for more bandwidth increases, BayanTel will continue to deploy this infrastructure in more buildings throughout the business districts within and outside Metro Manila.

"While we have improved our capability to deliver business-critical high speed bandwidth to corporate customers, we also realize the heavy demand for high speed bandwidth to residential customers due to DSL.  As a result, we have started to deploy the same optical infrastructure in the residential areas.  This will allow BayanTel to support broadband services similar to those deployed in more advanced countries like Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong," Rivera added.
