Rebuttal to Made in Japan
June 24, 2004 | 12:00am
Having felt alluded to in the "Made in Japan" item of the May 27 issue of SPYBIZ, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Domingo Siazon wrote to rebut the allegations. According to him, the present exchange rate of Y210 to US $1 was first established by former President Cory Aquino in 1986 for the immediate relief of DFA personnel who would have been affected by the depreciation of the US dollar. This rate was also approved by FVR and Joseph Estrada during their terms. Siazon said it isnt true that the exchange rate used is three times the normal. It is actually less than twice the normal. The arrangement is even advantageous to the government because Tokyo and Osaka are posts where diplomats incomes exceed expenditures. And while it may be possible for the official residence of the Ambassador to fetch US$50,000 if it were rented out, the Japanese government would not likely allow it to be commercialized in that manner. He added that the property, which is the official residence of the Ambassador, exists to represent the country in a fitting manner. That said, it may be that this whole matter was actually just a case of envy among envoys.
DasmariñAs Dads Declare War On Diplomats
The Dasmariñas Village Association (DVA) recently declared war on some embassies with chanceries located in the village. The DVA sent a letter stating that these embassies will be fined several thousands of pesos for violating subdivision rules, among them "illegal parking by visa applicants," loitering, etc... The letter, which was allegedly prompted by complaints from neighbors, also advised these embassies to move out within one year. The letters rude tone outraged the ambassadors. Some of them have been there for many years and their governments own the houses where their chanceries are located. In fact, embassies that rent just started their long-term lease agreements and there is no clause of termination for such cases. The ambassadors insist that they have complied with the rule that no queue should be formed on the sidewalk. The Ambassadors also said the DVA should have first approached them individually with the neighbors complaints, in order to negotiate some sort of arrangement, but instead the DVA simply declared war. Our advice to the DVA smart guys is to read the master strategist Von Clausewitz. He said that men and states should only resort to war when all efforts at diplomacy fail. Youre doing it the wrong way, fellers.
Gossip columnist Victor "Cachupoy" is obviously taking sides in the celebrated wife-beating case involving a prominent family. Everyone, including many columnists, knows the inside story of how this poor wife endured this brutal wife-beater for so many years. In fact, she was shot in the stomach and nearly died. Absolutely no one believes it was accidental. The sad part is this mercenary gossip columnist is insinuating that the issue for this poor wife is all about money. If there is anyone who is all about money, it is this gossip columnist. Many columnists were approached to write positive things about this unrepentant wife-beater, but no one would have anything to do with it. Only Cachupoy, being the well-known Jukebox Queen, willingly sang this merciless wife-beaters songs. Last we heard, Cachupoy was changing his columns name to "Tales of a Cock."
Illegal Aliens Threatening RP & US National Securities, Part 2
This immigration official who claims that he regularly gives P1-M each to his chief and to a son of a top government official is raking it in while threatening the national security of the country and its allies. He reportedly facilitates the departure of Chinese nationals carrying illegal documents from the mainland to RP at P1-M per head. RP is a jumping point to the US and Canada. According to Ear-spy Sisyphus, a fat percentage of the P1-M is offered to the airline (about $6,000) that could fly the illegal immigrants non-stop to Canada and to the US. Upon arrival in the US, lawyers are already waiting for their Chinese clients, who readily pose as political refugees seeking asylum. In addition, he facilitates the departure of Filipinos who want to work in Europe, particularly Italy, using fake documents such as baklas passports and false visas. The fee for undocumented Filipinos, posing as tourists, bound for Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Middle East costs P12,000 per head. There are more than 500 Pinoys daily who leave to work illegally abroad. That is the reason why many OFWs are undocumented or not listed with the POEA. This official is allegedly using 20 Immigration officials as bagmen and for client screens. Sisyphus wants to alert RP and US aviation intelligence groups and all other concerned agencies.
