Sun Cellular is assisting the government in its campaign to bring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in war-stricken Iraq and Kuwait closer to their families by extending its services for free to aid the government in its "Oplan Kalinga" a project to establish a 24-hour call center to ensure that communications will be open and available for OFWs facing the terror of war in the Middle East.
The undertaking is part of a nationwide effort to help dispel the fears of the public on the dangers being posed by the US-Iraq war.
The 24-hour call center was set up by the Office of the Press Secretary and the Presidential Action Center in partnership with other government agencies and telecommunication companies following the outbreak of war in Iraq. These agencies include the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Middle East Preparedness Team.
Mrs. Basal, whose husband Ronaldo is caught in the middle of the war, called from the booth of Sun Cellular and lauded the project as a big help to those who are worrying about the safety of their loved ones in the Middle East.
During these uncertain times, Sun Cellular said it stands firm in its commitment as a corporate citizen concerned and committed to the plight of its country. Although a new player in the GSM arena, Sun Cellular said it is highly committed to its share of supporting the country during these tough and troubled times. Sun Cellular is offering its excellent services to the government and OFWs and their families to ensure that communications is obtainable and accessible.
"Sun Cellular is aware of the fact that communications play a vital role in situations like this it is the only link we have to our countrymen caught in this battle. Rest assured that Sun Cellular could be depended on to provide this important service to the Filipinos," Digitel Mobile Philippines, Inc. said.
Sun Cellular is equipped with features far advanced than other mobile operators and is outfitted with the modern technological advances to better respond to the growing needs of the Philippine mobile user market.
