Sharp expands RP operations

Sharp (Phils.) Corp., a subsidiary of Japanese multimedia conglomerate Sharp Corp., has expanded its operations in the Philippines by investing another P24 million to manufacture drum and toner-type cartridges for copier machines for export to Japan, Europe and the US.
Sharp Philippines manufactures printers, copiers and fax machines, washing machines, television sets, stereo, parts and components.
The new plant which is located in Alabang, Muntinlupa started operations in May this year. It has a production capacity of 150,000 units per year.
It also generated employment for an additional 39 workers.
Sharp Philippines was established as a joint venture in 1982 between Pilipinas Development Corp. and Sharp Corp. of Japan.
Sharp Philippines was the first electronic and home appliance manufacturer in the country to be granted the ISO 9002 certification for its quality systems by the British Standards Institute in 1993.
Its country slogan, "A Sharp product in every Filipino home," has helped propel the company in its 16 years of operation in the country. Marianne Go
