LTO starts collecting IT fees

-
On recommendations of the project management committee and project acceptance committee of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Gen. Edgardo M. Abenina (ret.) recently signed and issued the certificate of acceptance of the information technology facilities (CAIF) after securing the approval of Transportation and Communications Secretary Pantaleon D. Alvarez.

The LTO project acceptance committee conducted the month-long operational testing of the IT facilities in 30 LTO district offices and licensing centers in the National Capital Region (NCR) and confirmed that these facilities are functioning satisfactorily according to the standards agreed upon by the project management committees of both the LTO and the project proponent, Stradcom Corp. Over 500 units of computer equipment are now in place and operational in the LTO-NCR offices.

Meanwhile, LTO spokesman Col. Gene Tosino announced that the issuance of the CAIF by the LTO now allows the project proponent to collect the corresponding I.T. fees. Effective today, therefore, the LTO will charge drivers and motor vehicle owners the following I.T. fees which are stipulated in the project contract awarded to the LTO-IT Project proponent. P52.80 for each transaction under the Driver’s Licensing System (DLS) including driver’s license-related transactions with the Law Enforcement and Traffic Adjudication Service (LETAS); and P132.00 for each transaction under the Motor Vehicle Registration System (MVRS) including motor vehicle registration-related transactions with the LETAS.

It will be recalled that as early as February this year, a number of LTO district offices in the NCR had already been operating in a computerized environment without charging the corresponding I.T. fees. The rehabilitation and computerization of these LTO offices have shortened the renewal process for driver’s license and motor vehicle registration to less than an hour.
