Velarde has made significant contributions in the broadcasting, telecommunications and the information technology sectors before establishing One Virtual, the first broadband Internet service provider (ISP) via satellite in the country that provides connectivity to schools, ISPs and small businesses.

Other new members of STI’s board of directors are Angping and Associates Securities chairman Jerry Angping, Wilfredo Racadio of All Asia Capital Manager Inc.

Keeping their STI board seats for another term were STI president Chito Salazar, Ramon Abaya of Cagayan Electric Power & Light Co., Glicerio Sicat of Inter-Pacific Capital (Phils.) Corp., Hernan Gamboa of Data Center Design Corp., and Systems Standards Inc. chairman Augusto Lagman. Salazar was also re-elected as president and chief operating officer of STI.
