BOC Subic exceeds target for July

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – The Bureau of Customs district office here overshot by more than 446.51 percent its collection target set by Customs Commissioner Titus Villanueva for the month of July.

Based on a report submitted by collector Teresita Abad, chief of assessment division, to district customs collector Billy C. Bibit, total collection for the month of July reached P631.971 million, way over its target of only P154 million.

Abad said the actual collection was four times more than the target. She attributed the big increase to the "client friendly" policy instituted by Bibit upon his assignment to the Subic Bay Freeport district office in April this year.

According to Abad, the local customs office under Bibit’s stewardship generated more than P1.137 billion in revenues from April to July compared to P664.043 million during the same period last year, for a P95.7-percent increase.

Inspite of the prevailing economic slump, the Subic Freeport has been attracting both importers and manufacturers to ship their cargoes through Subic.

Bibit said the market increase in collection is due to the implementation of the general policy direction of Villanueva as spelled out during a recent conference-workshop, plus the adoption of the non-enforcement of alert orders in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
