Ecozone exports rise 27% to P20 B in 2000

Export earnings from the countrys ecozones rose by a notable 27 percent to P20.025 billion for the whole of 2000 from P15.808 billion in 1999, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) reported over the weekend.
Ecozones operated by the government contributed P7.292 billion to the total, or a robust 33-percent expansion from the 1999 income of P5.490 billion.
In particular, the Bataan Economic Zone posted a P674.59- million income in 2000, up P245.49 million from the previous years P429.10 million.
The Baguio City Economic Zone earned P2.857 billion in 2000, up 52 percent from 1999s P1.885 billion, while the Mactan Economic Zone raked in P1.642 billion or a 12 hike from the previous years P1.462 billion.
The Cavite Economic Zone recorded a 24-percent hike in earnings to P2.117 billion from P1.712 billion.
Private ecozones, on the other hand, reported a 23-percent expansion in export earnings as this hit P12.732 billion from P10.316 billion in 1999.
Among those which posted an increase were the Laguna Technopark, the Light Industry and Science Park, and the Carmerlray Industrial Park.
The Laguna Technopark earned 22 percent more last year to P4.615 billion from last years P3.798 billion, while the Carmelray Industrial Park recorded an 18-percent expansion to P1.803 billion from P1.526 billion.
Exports from the Light Industry and Science Park II rose by 15.5 percent to P1.218 billion in 2000 from P1.407 billion last year.
