PPA, nagbabala sa pag-uugnay ng antidepressant sa suicide

MANILA, Philippines — Nagbabala ang Philippine Psychiatric Association (PPA) sa publiko laban sa pag-uugnay ng paggamit ng antidepressant sa suicide nang wala namang medical evidence at clinical context.

Ayon sa PPA, ang paggawa nito ay iresponsable at may kaakibat na panganib.

“To publicly single out antidepressants as a causal factor – absent proof of diagnosis, treatment details, or clinical course – is medically unsound and irresponsible,” anang PPA.

“The reckless use of mental health narratives to support conjecture or assign blame fuels stigma, distorts public understanding, and may deter individuals from seeking much-needed professional help,” dagdag pa nito.

Una nang sinabi ng Philippine National Police (PNP) Forensic Group na gumamit si dating Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Catalina Cabral ng isang antidepressant drug bago matagpuang walang malay sa isang bangin sa Benguet noong Disyembre 18.

Naisugod pa si Cabral, na isinasangkot sa ma-anomalyang flood control projects sa bansa, sa pagamutan ngunit malaunan ay binawian rin ng buhay.

Pinaniniwalaang sinadya ni Cabral na tumalon sa bangin at kitilin ang sariling buhay bunsod ng kinasasangkutan nitong isyu.
