MANILA, Philippines — Umaasa ang National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) ang pag-ulan ng mga pamasko at holiday remittances upang mapalakas uli ang piso kontra dolyar patungong Disyembre.

Ito ang sinabi ni NEDA Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon sa isang briefing, Biyernes, kasabay ng pagbagsak sa panibagong all-time low ng halaga ng piso kontra dolyar sa P58.5 ngayong araw.

"We are hoping that is very temporary. In the case of Philippines, we are hoping to see some stabilization toward November, December," ani Edillon.

"Historically this is when we receive many remittances, pamasko na padala. This will also prop up the peso."

Una nang sinabi sa ilang mga ulat na itinutulak ang pagbagsak na ito ng malaking interest rate hike ng US Federal Reserve, maliban pa sa mga sinyales na magpapatupad pa nito sa mga darating na panahon.

Bagama't mapapakinabangan daw ng mga pamilya ng overseas Filipino workers ang mataas na halaga ng dolyares, ipinaalala ni Edillon ang sumusunod: "[W]e are hoping they will keep their purchases in country."

"We are hoping our domestic producers and exporters take advantage of this weakness in Philippine peso," sabi pa niya.

"If we are able to do that, we increase those gains, and hopefully, that will generate more opportunities and more income for Filipinos."

Ito'y kahit sinasabi ng ilang ekonomista na ang peso depreciation ay magdudulot ng mas mahal na halaga ng foreign foods and services sa mga Pilipino.

Ginagamit ang dolyares para bayaran ang mga imports, gaya na lang ng mga produktong petrolyo.

Setyembre lang nang iulat na bumagal nang bahagya ang inflation nitong Agosto sa 6.3%. Gayunpaman, sobra-sobra pa rin 'yan sa target inflation ng gobyerno na 2-4%.
