1.6-M COVID-19 vaccines 'mapapanis sa Agosto,' daan-daang milyon sayang — negosyante

MANILA, Philippines — Tinatayang nasa 1.6 milyon COVID-19 vaccines na siyang pinakyaw ng pribadong sektor ang nakatakdang mapanis sa Agosto ayon kay Go Negosyo founder at RFM Corp. President Joey Concepcion.

Aniya, daang milyon ang masasayang dahil sa pabulok na mga bakunang nagkakahalaga ng US$10 kada dose.

“By mid-August, about 1.6 million private-sector vaccines will expire. [W]e’re looking at hundreds of millions of pesos that the private sector will lose because these vaccines are expiring,” wika niya sa isang forum, Martes.

Ani Concepion, kabilang dito ang mga COVID-19 vaccine ng AstraZeneca at Moderna.

Para maiwasan ang pag-aaksaya, muling nanawagan si Coneptiom sa Health Technical Advisory Council na payagan na ang general public makatanggap ng kanilang ikalawang booster dose na kasalukuyang ibinibigay lang sa mga senior citizen at immunocompromised na indibidwal.

Pagbibigay-diin pa niya, ang Estados Unidos nga na siyang pinagbilhan ng bakuna ay nagpamudmod na ng second booster sa kanilang mamamayan.

"The sense of urgency is quite not there. The private sector and the government is trying to do their best, but there’s a body that is somehow moving quite slow,” giit ni Concepcion.

"[I]f the Americans are the ones who invented these vaccines and then we bought [these] from them, shouldn’t we follow what CDC (Center for Disease Control) is doing? It’s the same thing,” dagdag pa niya.

Batay sa datos ng Department of Health, nasa mahigit 70 milyon katao na sa bansa ang fully vaccinated kontra COVID-19 ngunit nasa 15 milyon pa lang ang nakatanggap na ng booster dose.

Dahil dito, sinabi ng ahensya na dapat ay gawin ng mandato ang pagtuturok ng booster shot sa pangkalahatang populasyon.

"The uptake of our booster shots is really low. So I think it’s high time that we mandate booster vaccination for the general population. It has to be mandatory so that we can increase protection, especially now that we are preparing for face-to-face classes and workplaces are also open now,” wika ni Dr. Rontgene Solante, infectious disease expert, sa isang briefing nitong nakaraang linggo.
