Magna Carta of the Poor lusot sa Senado

MANILA, Philippines — Ipinasa ng Senado ngayong araw sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa ang Magna Carta of the Poor, isang panukalang may layuning itaguyod ang interes ng maralitang Pilipino.

Gustong ibsan ng Senate Bill 2121, na hinain ni Sen. Leila de Lima, ang kahirapang nakapipigil sa maraming mamamayan na hindi maka-ahon sa buhay.

Sa ilalim nito, sinabi ng acting chair ng Committee on Social Justice, Welfare, and Social Development na si Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV na sisiguruhing may sapat na pagkain ang mahihirap, lalo na sa panahon ng sakuna't kalamidad.

Magpapatupad at magpapanatili din ng mga feeding program sa mga day-care centers at eskwelahan. Maliban dito, sisiguruhing sapat ang bilang ng de kaledad na pagkain para sa mga mahihirap na pamilya kung tuluyang maisasabatas.

"With the help of non-government organizations and other partners, the government shall also proactively engage the poor in activities intended to promote their food self-sufficiency and strengthen their access to resources and means to ensure food security," ani Trillanes.

Nais din ng panukalang batas na mabigyan ng dagdag na oportunidad ang mahihirap na makakuha ng "disenteng" trabaho, kasama ang karapatang makakuha ng pabahay na maayos, abot-kaya, ligtas at akma sa kanilang kultura.

"It is high time we heard the plea of the people," dagdag ni Trillanes.

Sa ilalim ng SB 2121, pagtutulungan ng Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Labor and Employement, Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, Department of Education, Department of Agriculture at pribadong sektor na ipagkaloob ang karapatan sa pagkain, disenteng hanapbuhay, libreng edukasyon, pabahay at sebisyong pangkalusugan.

"The state shall ensure that the welfare of the people will be the true measure of progress and stability on accord with sustainability and fiscal realities," sabi niya.
