ERC officials pinagbibitiw ng Solon
MANILA, Philippines - Nananawagan si Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate sa lahat ng commissioner ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) na magbitiw na ang mga ito dahil sa mga anomalya at isyu ng korupsyon na kinasasangkutan umano ng mga ito.
Ayon kay Zarate, ang isa sa pinaka-kontrobersiyal na usapin ng ERC ay ang ‘midnight deal’ ng pitong power supply agreement (PSA) ng Meralco at ng mga affiliated power generation companies.
“Dahil dito hinayaang maging monopolyo at matali sa Meralco ang mga konsyumers for the next 20-25 years nang walang bidding. The extension effectively rendered the competitive selection process (CSP) useless,” ayon pa kay Zarate.
Pinaalala rin naman ng kongresista na si ERC Chair Jose Vicente Salazar ay nahaharap din sa korupsyon matapos siyang idawit ng nagpakamatay na si ERC Dir. Jun Villa noong Nobyembre.
“As it is, they have failed to safeguard of the welfare of electricity consumers and power rate hikes are not being stopped by the ERC. While Congress is now investigating the anomalies in the ERC and bills to replace the onerous Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) the ERC should be manned by people with integrity and competence to protect consumers,” giit pa ni Zarate
