P500M 'hot rice' nasabat sa Subic

MANILA, Philippines - Naharang ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang pinakamalaking smuggled imported rice na nagkakahalaga ng P500 milyon sa Subic Freeport.

Ayon kay Customs Comm. Ruffy Biazon, dumating at nasabat ang 420,000 sakong bigas mula bansang India sa Subic noong April 2012 sakay ng Vinalines Mighty at ito ay naka-consigned sa Metroeastern Trading Corp.

Sinabi ni Biazon na nagduda na ang mga opisyal ng BOC sa Subic na kuwestiyunable ang kargamento nang walang maipakitang dokumentong “rice importation” ang consignee tulad ng Allocation and Import Permits mula sa National Food Authority (NFA).

“There was clearly a grand design to illegally slip the 420,000 bags of imported white rice into the country as, not only was the importation undocumented, but it’s consignee  tried to make the shipment appear as a transshipment load to Jakarta,” pahayag ni Biazon.

Samantala umapela naman ang legal counsel ng Metroeastern Tradings sa BOC na bawiin na ang ibinabang Warrant of  Seizure and Detention (WSD) Order para sa bigas dahil ang tunay na consignee ng 420,000 sakong bigas ay isang India based company na Amira C Foods Int’l DMCC at ang orihinal na destinasyon ng bigas ay sa Jakarta, Indonesia.

Ngunit ayon kay dating Port of Subic District Collector Errol B. Albano, taliwas naman sa paliwanag ng representante ng Metroeastern Trading, napatunayan na ang 420,000 bags rice shipment ay nakatakdang ideliber sa Port of Subic base na rin sa Bill of Lading No. KDL/VM/01.

Bukod pa ang nakitang ebidensiyang Packing List and Commercial Invoice No. 222215, na may petsang March 20, 2012 na may Exporters Reference No. 059400014 na inisyu ng Amira at tinukoy na ang Metroeastern ang consignee at ang Port of Subic ang  port of discharge.
