Pagbitay kay Saddam tuloy na

BAGHDAD — Pinagtibay ng Court of Appeals sa Iraq ang death sentence kay Saddam Hussein at nakatakda itong bitayin sa loob ng 30 araw.

"The appeals court has approved the death sentence. They (the government) has the right to choose the date starting from tomorrow up to 30 days. After 30 days it will be an obligation to implement the sentence," pahayag ng Iraqi High Tribunal, Aref Abdul-Razzaq al-Shahin.

Napatunayang guilty si Saddam, 69, noong Nobyembre 5, 2006 dahil sa pagpatay sa 148 Shi’ites sa bayan ng Dujail matapos ang isang assassination attempt sa kanya noong 1982.

Kasama niyang nahatulan ng parusang bitay ang half-rother na si Barzan al-Tikriti at dating judge Awad al-Bander dahil sa kanilang partisipasyon sa krimen. Ibinasura rin ng korte ang apela ng dalawa.

Samantala, inirekomenda ng korte na gawing bitay ang hatol na habambuhay na pagkabilanggo kay dating Vice Pres. Taha Yassin Ramadan dahil sa Dujail killings. Masyado umanong mababa ang parusa.
