MANILA, Philippines — Saying President Marcos values honesty, competence and dedication to public service, Malacañang defended yesterday the appointment of Zofia Canlas as commissioner of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) amid criticism over her “lavish” trips abroad.

Palace press officer Claire Castro said Canlas has long been part of the PCUP.

Canlas previously served as PCUP chief of staff.

Asked if Canlas can deliver the tasks related to her job, Castro said, “We will not judge based on whether someone is young or old.”

According to a Politiko report, Canlas graduated from the De La Salle University in 2024 with a degree in Biology, major in Medical Biology.

Canlas’ social media posts featured trips to upscale tourist destinations in Italy, Spain, France, Greece and the United States.
