GCash ties up with Mindanao’s biggest retailer

MANILA, Philippines — E-wallet giant GCash is expanding its payment reach in Mindanao by tying up with the island’s largest retailer, introducing scan-to-pay options and installment plans for payment flexibility.

GCash said it has entered into a partnership with Mindanao retailer EMCOR for the introduction of digital payment across its 174 branches.

Specifically, GCash is bringing scan-to-pay options into EMCOR, allowing the latter to expedite payment procedures.

GCash is also adding EMCOR to its growing network on GBills, which is the e-wallet’s platform for financial transactions with government and private billers. GBills allows consumers to pay on a monthly basis.

With EMCOR’s addition to GBills, GCash said more Filipinos would be given the opportunity to purchase what they need now and pay them later. EMCOR is Mindanao’s largest retailer of home needs, from appliances and furniture, to motorcycles and three-wheelers.

GCash regional business unit head Tania Padilla said the partnership is meant to launch flexible installments in areas where EMCOR is present, including in Palawan and Visayas.

“This partnership with EMCOR ensures that paying for home essentials and settling on monthly installments are effortless,” Padilla said.

EMCOR president and chief operating officer Nelson Aparejo said the company would capitalize on its tie-up with GCash to widen customer reach in Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao.

“Partnering with GCash is a natural extension of our commitment, that our customers across our 174 branches can now pay instantly through scan-to-pay or manage their installments remotely through GBills, right from their phones. This is more than a payment upgrade; it is about making the lives of Filipinos easier and giving them more time and peace of mind,” Aparejo said.

As a whole, GCash sees its EMCOR partnership as another step toward raising digital finance in Visayas and Mindanao. The e-wallet is driving up efforts to expand the cashless ecosystem, and it aims to bring financial services in underserved sectors.

GBills is one of GCash’s innovations in scaling up digital finance, as the feature allows Filipinos to pay bills online, removing the hassle of visiting physical stores.
