RAMALLAH — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is threatening to stop security coordination with Israel if the country continues to withhold millions of dollars of Palestinian tax revenue.
Nabil Shaath, a senior Palestinian official, says Abbas warned European leaders that Palestinian officials would discuss the matter in a council meeting next week.
Shaath on Sunday urged the U.S. to pressure Israel to give the Palestinians the tax revenue it collects on their behalf.
Palestinians and Israelis cooperate on arrests in the West Bank and other security matters.
Israel has withheld tax revenue from the Palestinians since they joined the International Criminal Court last month.
Secretary of State John Kerry said the U.S. fears that without a cash injection, the Palestinian Authority could collapse — entailing serious security implications for both Palestinians and Israelis.
