Lab results show Briton who died in Macedonia not infected with Ebola virus

SKOPJE  (Xinhua) - The Briton who died on Thursday in Skopje had not been infected with Ebola virus, according to the laboratory test results, Macedonian Health Ministry informed on Saturday.

The laboratory tests carried out in certified institution in Germany was negative for Ebola. The Briton died from other causes.

The quarantine for the Super 8 Hotel where the Briton stayed as well as for the Infectious Clinic where he was treated has been lifted, said Dr Jovanka Kostovska, head of the Health Ministry's Sector for Preventative Health Protection.

The 58-year-old English businessman Colin Jaffray arrived at Skopje on Oct. 2 for a business trip. He was admitted to the Infectious Clinic on Thursday where he died soon with symptoms of fever, vomiting and internal bleeding.

Those symptoms raised suspicion that he might have contracted Ebola virus.

An autopsy will be made in order to establish the cause of the death, Dr Jovanka Kostovska said.
