EU commends UNDP, Ormoc for Yolanda rehab work

ORMOC CITY, Philippines – A high ranking official of the European Union who was in this city on January 21 praised the United Nations Development Programme and the local government of Ormoc for the fruitful collaboration among them in relation to post-Yolanda rehabilitation programs.

Carol Maningo, EU program officer, did not hide her satisfaction for UNDP’s performance by saying that its implementing partner truly made a complete impact in Ormoc City. She also praised the city government for such a successful achievement.  These, she said during the turnover ceremony of a two-story community evacuation center which the EU funded.

The CEC has a floor area of 400 square meters, can accommodate beyond the standard of 3.5 sq.m./person, can withstand magnitude 9.5 earthquake and 300 kph winds. The center also features separate toilets for different genders. A total of four CECs are located in Ormoc Hub, the three in Biliran Province.

Maningo also stressed the importance of installing solar panels for alternative energy source and went on to assure Mayor  Edward Codilla that the EU is ready to assist the city if there is a need.  “Rest assured when you need EU’s help, we are ready whenever and whatever assistance you need just call on us.”
