BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two firearms and a cache of ammunition were confiscated from a barangay councilman in Calatrava town of Negros Occidental, Wednesday.
Police identified the councilman as Felipe Rojo, 67, of sitio Ta-ub in Barangay Dolis, whose firearms and ammunition were also found to be unlicensed.
Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said the police recovered from Rojo's house 81 live ammunition of 30-mm garand rifle, two of its cartridge cases and its 14 empty clips; an improvised homemade shotgun; a .38-caliber revolver; 12 brittle clip of .60-caliber machine gun; and a bandolier of the 30-mm garand rifle.
Rojo is now detained at the town police station and is facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The police operation by the joint elements of the NOPPO-Special Operations Group and the Calatrava Police, was carried out with a search warrant issued by Judge Reginald Fuentebella of the Municipal Trial Courts in the Cities against the suspect. (FREEMAN)
