Inmate drinks massage oil as partner nixes marriage
CEBU, Philippines - A detainee at the lock-up cell of the Iloilo City Police Station 6 allegedly tried to commit suicide Tuesday by drinking a massage oil.
The inmate, 28-year-old Jonathan Nadayag, a resident of Barangay Sta. Filomena in Arevalo district, this city, got depressed when his live-in partner turned down his marriage proposal.
Senior Inspector Tranquilino Querubin, Arevalo Police chief, said the small bottle of massage oil was left by a previous inmate. “Because the bottle was not even half-full, it did not have much effect on Nadayag,” he said.
A closed circuit television footage showed that a fellow inmate helped Nadayag after gulping the oil.
Nadayag, who was arrested on March 5 for an illegal drugs offense, wanted to marry his partner to avail of the privilege of conjugal visit once he will be transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology District Jail at Barangay Ungka in Jaro district.
On Thursday, Querubin said Nadayag was already remitted to the BJMP. — Jennifer P. Rendon (FREEMAN)
