No loyalty check among soldiers in Eastern Visayas

CATBALOGAN CITY , Philippines— The Philippine Army in Eastern Visayas will not conduct a “loyalty check” among its soldiers, citing the troop’s full support to the Aquino administration.

“The soldiers in Eastern Visayas are all loyal to the Republic, so there’s no need for a loyalty check,” said Major Amado Gutierrez, spokesperson of the Army’s 8th Infantry Division based in this city. “The recent rumored coup attempts are all baseless.”

Gutierrez assured the public that the military in the region would fulfill with its mandate to protect the Constitution and continue its mission to serve the people in Samar and Leyte. “We remain partisan-free and professional.”

The military in the region has been fully behind the Aquino government and the people, and that it is thankful to the president for fulfilling his promise to modernize the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and recognizing their efforts to maintain peace and order in Eastern Visayas.

Gutierrez added: “The people do not expect another coup. They all need to support national reform and efforts to introduce true democracy.” —PNA (FREEMAN)
