PALO, LEYTE, Philippines — Six members of the PNP Special Action Force who were massacred in Mamasapano, Maguindanao were from Eastern Visayas, a report from the Police Regional Office 8 said yesterday.

Chief Superintendent Asher Dolina, PRO-8 director, told reporters here that the regional force has been mourning for the loss of the slain heroes of SAF.

Dolina identified them as: Police Officer 3 John Lloyd Sumbilla, a native of Sulat town in Eastern Samar; PO2 Glen Bedua of Dulag, Leyte; PO2 Rodel Eva Ramacula of Rosario, Northern Samar; PO2 Noel Balaca Jr. of Oras, E. Dolina said PRO-8 is extending its “deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families  and relatives of the fallen policemen during a clash with lawless elements in Maguindanao last January 25.

“These police officers have died a meaningful death on the side of justice and righteousness. Their courage and devotion to service truly deserves utmost praise and recognition,” he said.

The police official said full military honors will be rendered upon arrival of the remains of these policemen at the Tacloban City DZR Airport either today or tomorrow.

Flags of all police units in Eastern Visayas have been in half-staff since the incident to show sympathy to the bereaved families and respect for the fallen heroes, said Dolina, adding that all PNP personnel are now wearing blackbands or funeral ribbon for a week-long period starting January 29. —Miriam Garcia Desacada and Primo A.
