Tagbilaran rolls back trike fare from P8 to P7

CEBU, Philippines – It's just a signature away from the mayor and the commuters in Tagbilaran City will get their long-time clamor-reduce the minimum fare for tricycles-for-hire from P8 to P7.

This was after the City Council on Friday approved a resolution, sponsored by Councilor Jeremias Pabe, rolling back by P1 the fare of tricycles plying the city streets. This will be implemented soon after the mayor signed it for enactment.

Pabe estimated that before Wednesday this week, the documentary process will be done and the new minimum fare will take effect.

The reduction of tricycle fare came after a series of consultations with the tricycle drivers, said Pabe, chair of the Council's committee on public utilities.

Pabe said he introduced the resolution also in response to the manifestation of Councilor Nerio Zamora II in last December's session calling for a "a study on whether there is a need to adjust (the fare) or to stick with the present fare considering the great drop in fuel prices."

After informing the tricycle drivers about the move, Pabe presented a formal proposal to the presidents of the various associations of drivers and operators during a committee meeting on January 15.
