TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – The Office of the Civil Defense-Region 8 will again release the amount of P4.9 million to the 14th batch of Yolanda victims identified by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.
Ben Mendi, administrarive officer of the OCD-8, said 400 families who lost their loved ones during Yolanda will received P10,000 each on December 22, while the 82 injured will get P5,000 each in financial assistance.
The OCD-8 had already released the P27 million to the 2,700 Yolanda survivors early this year, and eight more batches, whose documents are still being processed now for the same purpose, will soon be given the same amount early next year.
Meanwhile, Catbalogan City Mayor Stephanie Tan also ordered the release of P10,000 for each family that has a house destroyed by typhoon Ruby. She said those whose houses were partially damaged would be given financial assistance also.
Tan said the financial assistance was intended to help these families start their lives again after the recent disaster that hit most part of the three Samar provinces.
Catbalogan’s 57 villages, specifically its 28 coastal barangays were severely damaged by Ruby. About 25,000 families were affected, and the city government has so far spent more than P6 million in helping them.
