CEBU, Philippines – A 27-year-old man, whose wife had just delivered their first-born baby, died Sunday afternoon when he jumped off a hospital building in Mandurriao district of Iloilo City.
The victim, Levi Alejandro Mondia, of Barangay Libot in Calinog town of Iloilo, jumped to his death from the second floor of the Neo-Septic Ward of the Western Visayas Medical Center.
Witnesses said Mondia first went to the hospital’s window, scaled it, and jumped off head first. He was rushed to the emergency room but did not survive.
Shortly before that, Mondia had a talk with his sister-in-law regarding the medical condition of his wife, who just gave birth through Caesarian section, to their first baby way past her delivery date and is now incubated.
Mondia’s mother-in-law added that Mondia showed sign of anxiety after seeing blood at the hospital bed of the OB ward. “Maybe, he was thinking of their mounting hospital bills,” said Chief Inspector Leah Rose Peña, Mandurriao Police chief.
Investigators found no foul play on Mondia’s death.
