Dengue alert up in Tacloban City

CEBU, Philippines -  A dengue alert has been raised in typhoon-ravaged Tacloban, a city councilor reported yesterday.

Councilor Jerry Uy said a dengue alert has been raised in the area as stagnant flood waters remain in many parts of the city.

“Tons of debris remained uncollected despite the clean up being made by personnel of the Manila Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) in Tacloban,” he said.

The MMDA sent last Nov. 8 a team to Tacloban, one of the hardest hit by typhoon Yolanda, to help in clearing massive piles of debris blocking the roads in the city.

Uy said there is an urgent need to clean the surroundings to prevent a dengue outbreak in the city, adding that a massive information drive is needed to inform the people. –PhilStar News Service (FREEMAN)
