New Bohol PNP head, dragonboat race aficionado

DAUIS, BOHOL, Philippines — In his new assignment as Bohol Provincial Police director, Sr. Supt. Dennis Agustin said he was not only committed to eliminate all forms of crimes but also in promoting watersports, particularly dragonboat racing, of which he has been a fanatic practitioner.

Agustin, in his speech during the opening of the 1st Mayor Miriam Sumaylo Dragon Boat Extravaganza yesterday, said he is a dragonboat racing afficionado.

The competition, participated by contingents from various local dragonboat organizations, was staged along the Dauis-Tagbilaran Strait, and attended by Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio II and Dauis town Mayor Miriam Sumaylo.

Agustin told the crowd he was the former president of the PNP Dragonboat Association, which he led in  competitions abroad such as in Penang, Malaysia and Canada, among others.

Speaking in Tagalog, Agustin described as "nakakabaliw" his obsession and interest in the dragonboat racing. He said his mother almost sent him to a special medical care because his passion in the sport bordered almost on being crazyiness.

Agustin took over the BPPO top post, replacing Sr. Supt. Constantino Barot Jr. in ceremonies conducted at Camp Dagohoy in this city last week.

He vowed to prevent and curb illegal gambling and drugs, while sustaining peace and order around the province.  (FREEMAN)
