Leyteña bags Metrobank’s outstanding teacher award

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Maria Lorna Garnace, a secondary school teacher at the Philippine Science High School (PSHS)—Eastern Visayas campus in Leyte, is one of the awardees of the 2013 Metrobank Foundation’s Search for Outstanding Teachers (SOT).

Garnace, currently a special science teacher III with English as field of specialization also does administrative duties as head of Humanities Division of PSHS. She is a dedicated teacher who has a passion in molding the youth, according to PIA-8 report.

The national search, now on its 29th year, received nominations of 367 teachers from public and private educational institutions nationwide where 40 qualified as regional finalists.

The 40, after undergoing interviews and teaching demonstrations before the preliminary board of judges, identified for each category, were trimmed down to 20 national finalists, of which Garnace was included.

Garnace, along with nine other awardees will be conferred with gold medallion from President Benigno S. Aquino III on September 5 during the 51st anniversary celebration of Metrobank. Each awardee will also receive a plaque and P350,000 cash prize. —(FREEMAN)
