TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – Unidentified and motorcycle-riding, masked gunmen shot to death Barangay Chairman Marcelo “Amar” Epe of Barangay Tiptip of this city at past 4 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 19) near his house and Barangay Hall, witnesses said.
According to a source interviewed by The Freeman but declined to be named, Epe sustained gunshot wounds on his head, breast and other parts.
Police and SOCO probers recovered some empty shells believed to be of .45-caliber pistol, the source said.
The assailants wore helmets and “bonnets” but only one of the two approached the village chief and pulled the trigger point blank at the latter.
According to the source they just came from the “session” and Epe directly went to a sari-sari store nearby his house when the triggerman approached and pumped bullets, killing him instantly.
Minutes later, police set up check points in every entry and exit points so the suspects could be trapped but to no avail.
At the time The Freeman came to the crime scene, Epe’s body was still covered by a blanket and no policeman issued a statement while the investigation was still going on.
At press time yesterday, the police still are facing a blank wall as to the motive of the killing of Epe. (FREEMAN)
