CEBU, Philippines – A man who was recently released from jail allegedly committed suicide in Sitio Malinao, Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City on Christmas Day.
Christopher Amistad, 34, was found hanging from a tree around 10 a.m., said Police Officer 2 Marven Saraum of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office - Homicide Section.
"Nakit-an ni siya sa usa ka bata pag-alas 10 sa buntag sa usa ka kahoy, layo ra sa balay ni Amistad," Saraum told The FREEMAN.
The former inmate of Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Sitio Soong, Barangay Mactan reportedly used a nylon rope to tie himself up, according to police.
Saraum said Amistad may have fallen hopeless after finding out that his long-time live-in partner had another man.
Before Amistad was found dead, he reportedly visited his live-in partner and their child, handing them groceries last December 23.
"Nihatag ni siya og groceries sa iyahang live-in partner ug anak nila ug niingon nga 'take care nalang sa bata,'" Saraum said.
His partner is reportedly living within the city and will not be named in this article pending her comment.
Amistad visited again his live-in partner's house the next day, and played with his child, Saraum added.
"Niadto balik si Amistad sa balay sa iyahang live-in partner pag-December 24 sa buntag ug nakigduwa sa anak," Saraum said.
Saraum said Amistad was last seen watching a Christmas party inside the covered court of Barangagy Agus around 11 p.m., an hour before December 25.
Amistad was previously charged with several robbery cases.
Amistad's body was sent to Surelife Funeral Homes in Barangay Pajo for possible autopsy.
Based on police investigation, no suicide note or traces of foul play were found in the suicide area. (FREEMAN)
