CEBU, Philippines – The Barangay Nutrition and Health Workers of the 27 barangays in Mandaue City are now being trained to assist in the physical therapy sessions of persons with disabilities in the city.
Looc Barangay Councilor Raul Kevin Cabahug, who is the president of the Barangay Councilors' League of the Philippines-Mandaue City Chapter said they have initiated through their league the training of the BNHW workers of the different barangays in the city.
The workers will be given free training by Champ Therapy Center, a private firm in Barangay Ibabao which caters to the physical therapy sessions of the PWDs.
According to Cabahug , the staff of this firm is recently visiting the different barangays in the city to conduct trainings on how to handle sessions to PWDs in the city as part of their community service.
Aside from this activity, Cabahug also announced that through his leadership, all the barangay councilors in the city are now members of PhilHealth.
He said when he was elected BCLP president early this year, he was really bent on pushing for the medical needs of the barangay councilors in the city because it has been very unfortunate for them not to have any medical insurance when in reality most of their constituents come to them for help when they have medical needs.
Luckily, their sentiments were heard by Mayor Jonas Cortes and now all the barangay councilors of the 27 barangays in the city are PhilHealth members who renew their membership yearly.
Cabahug also said their chapter just recently asked the help of Governor Hilario Davide III for financial assistance for them to undergo a legislative enhancement seminar.
"We deal with legislation, but nay uban sa atong mga barangay kagawads ang dili pa gyud kayo sweto sa pagpanday ug mga ordinansaon ug wa pa kaayo'y kalibutan sa ubang mga balaod so there is the need to be enhanced," Cabahug said.
Cabahug said he is also glad that Vice Governor Agnes Magpale has also extended a P100,000 aid to BCLP Mandaue Chapter which will be used in their other activities.
