CEBU, Philippines – A 20-year-old man, believed to be a victim of summary execution, was found dead yesterday dawn in Barangay Linao-Lipata, Minglanilla town with two gunshot wounds in his forehead and hands tied in his back.
Jimmy Villanueva of Barangay Dawis, Talisay City was found dead near the road in the barangay.
According to Police Officer 1 Taher Radiab, the residents heard two bursts of gunfire past 2 a.m. yesterday.
Radiab said neighbors Julie Abatayo and Eldebert Toribio went outside to check what happened and where the gunfire had originated only to see the wounded victim on the roadside with his hands tied with a cable wire.
Radiab said it is possible that the victim was still alive when the perpetrators brought him there.
"Buhi pa gyud siguro ni siya nga gidala didto, unya didto lang gipatay, kay didto ra man nadungog sa mga tawo ang duha ka buto," Radiab said.
Nobody seemed to have noticed any vehicle that might have carried the victim, police said.
"Daghan raman nagpuyo diha dapita, pero kadlawon man gud, mingaw na gyud," Radiab said.
The police believed that the person who killed the victim might be harboring deep grudge against him.
The police are still conducting further investigation regarding the victim's death to determine the motive and the perpetrators.
