CEBU, Philippines – The Talisay City government is pushing for the regular inclusion of the city in the annual Gabii sa Kabilin event, which highlights historical, cultural and religious heritage sites in Cebu City.
City Councilor Doroteo Emit, chairman of the council committee on tourism, believes that if the city will be included in the annual Gabii sa Kabilin, the city’s tourism sector would further improve.
“In efforts to institutionalize the Gabii Sa Kabilin, the partners of this event, which includes Talisay City, have agreed to create a duly registered consortium for this purpose. The would-be Gabii sa Kabilin Consortium would be in-charge of highlighting the diverse and rich historical, cultural and religious heritage of the entire Cebu Province, as well as other provinces during the visit of the Holy Pope’s entourage here next year,” Emit said.
Emit added that international media would be present to cover the said visit and would be a favorable time for Talisay City to be mentioned and shown to the international community.
Among the heritage sites in the city is the Museo de Talisay. A section of the museum depicts the simplicity of the local people’s life emphasizing manual labor as their means of livelihood and survival. The entertainment section also shows pictures which complement occasions celebrated in the city.
Museo de Talisay is categorized as a general museum. It is situated at the Gabaldon Building of the Talisay City Central School. The city is also known for its Lechon.
The Gabii sa Kabilin started in 2007 and it was only this year that Talisay joined the activity. –/ATO
