CEBU, Philippines - A man who was out on bail for a recent drug case was shot dead by unidentified suspects onboard motorcycle while he was riding a bicycle going to Sitio Kalabasa-Carajay, Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City around 9:15 yesterday morning.
Manuelito Berame, 49, a resident of Purok Lemonsito, Barangay Gun-ob, was identified by the police based on the initial investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 1 Allan Pantaleon of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section.
According to the accounts of the victim's partner Cristitota Rosillos, her partner reportedly asked permission to visit his relatives living in Carajay.
Rosillos allowed Berame to visit his relatives that morning.
The victim, prior to the incident, was reportedly riding his bike from his house going to the other sitio.
Two suspects wearing black jacket and sunglasses onboard a motorcycle reportedly followed Berame and immediately shot him several times from his back.
The victim was immediately rushed to Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital but was declared dead-on-arrival.
The two suspects fled to unknown direction.
Rosillos added that Berame was reported to use illegal drugs and was a drug peddler in the area.
He was reported to have a recent drug case last year in Mandaue City.
Earlier, two men in Barangay Pajac and Manuel L. Quezon Highway in Barangay Pusok who were also reportedly on bail for a drug and theft case, respectively, were also shot by identified assailants onboard motorcycles.
Three empty shells and a bullet from a 9mm pistol were found at the crime scene, according to Pantaleon.
Four rolled tin foils were also reportedly discovered in the area.
Pantaleon said they are conducting an investigation for the possible arrest and identification of the suspects. — Christell Fatima M. Tudtud (FREEMAN)
