CEBU, Philippines- The Talisay City Council has passed on first reading a proposed ordinance declaring October 5 as the official Teacher's Day.
Talisay City Councilor Richard Francis Aznar, chairman of the committee on education and author of the proposed ordinance, said the day will give time for the teachers to have a break from blackboard duty and give way to a special program in the classroom or school compound.
If the proposed measure will be approved on third and final reading, the city will appropriate P300,000 for the conduct of the whole-day activities.
Under the ordinance, the teacher's day shall have variety of activities such as, but not limited to, teachers forum, presentation, games, and any other activity which will make them feel important during the event.
A Teachers Day Committee shall be formed each year from the group of teachers themselves and employees from the City of Talisay to ensure the event's success.
Another activity is a Search for Most Outstanding Teacher in the city which will run in two categories: one will be chosen from high school level and one from the elementary level.
