CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government and the Department of Public Works and Highways have joined forces in addressing the problem of at least six areas in the city identified as flood-prone.
City Planning and Development Officer Architect Florentino Nimor, Jr. said they have identified areas in the barangays of Tipolo, Banilad, Umapad, Basak, Cabancalan and Subangdaku as susceptible to flooding.
According to Nimor, they have noticed that during heavy downpour, these areas experience flooding.
In order to address the problem, Nimor said the city government, along with the Department of Public Works and Highways, has implemented drainage projects in the city.
Nimor further said most of the areas covered by the drainage work are national roads so he said the city government is closely coordinating with DPWH officials.
At present, an ongoing drainage project has been implemented by the DPWH along A.S. Fortuna Street in Barangay Banilad to address the flooding problem in the area.
The Mandaue City Engineering Office is also declogging drainages in the city in preparations for the rainy season. (FREEMAN)
