CEBU, Philippines - The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading a measure that will establish a sports academy and training center in Talisay City.
House Bill 1341, which is sponsored by Cebu first district Representative Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas, seeks to establish the sports academy and training center, which will be constituted as the primary sports development and training center for athletes, coaches and other sports personnel in Cebu and other parts of the Central Visayas.
In an interview with The FREEMAN, Gullas said he will ask Senator Sonny Angara to sponsor a Senate version of the bill.
Gullas said the center will be located in an area in Talisay where considerable development in facilities is already in place.
"In the continued pursuit for excellence by the Cebuanos in the field of sports competition, the establishment of the Talisay Sports Academy and Training Center will provide the necessary physical facilities and the provision of expert training resources in the various disciplines," Gullas said in his bill.
Gullas believes that with the establishment of the sports academy, the sportsmen in the region will have a venue and develop athletes skills to bring honor to the region in the national and international competitions. (FREEMAN)
