Mandaue adopts 5S method

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City government with the support of the private sector and government agencies yesterday launched 5S Methodology "to ensure effective delivery of basic services to the people."

The 5S is a workplace organization methodology which involves the  five Japanese words: seiri, meaning sort; seiton, systematize; seiso, shine; seiketsu, standardize; and shitsuke, self-discipline.

Before the launching, the department heads of the city underwent a seminar on 5S conducted by personnel of Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board.

Mandaue City Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, who read the speech of Mayor Jonas Cortes, said by adopting the 5S Methodology, they are beginning the tedious process of transforming into a lean workplace.

"This transformation, like the Performance Governance System, is not a walk in the park, but we will reap benefits that will echo throughout the organization and throughout the history of Mandaue City government," said Bercede.

He said adopting the 5S Methodology will show the sincerity in making Mandaue City an organization that devotes itself to the best interest of constituents and clients.

The launching of 5S Methodology was part of the ongoing Performance Governance System implemented by the city in partnership with Institute for Solidarity in Asia. — (FREEMAN)
