Shooting suspect emerges from hole

CEBU, Philippines - A 31-year-old man, who went hiding for two days inside a drainage in Sitio Libo, Barangay Mohon in Talisay City, was mauled by angry bystanders after he was tagged as the suspect of a shooting incident on Sunday.

Carlo Oyo-a, a resident of Barangay Ward III in Minglanilla, who was only wearing his underwear, went out from the drainage because he asked for water.

Senior Police Officer Mikie Espina of Talisay City Police said they immediately brought Oyo-a to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Initial investigation conducted by the police revealed that Oyo-a had a heated argument with Eduardo Largo, 30, last Sunday evening in Sitio Isla Verde, Barangay San Isidro.

The suspect pulled out a firearm and shot Largo, hitting him in his right hand and foot. Oyo-a fled heading towards Barangay Mohon.

Authorities then conducted a hot pursuit operation when Raul Pardillo spotted Oyo-a with the use of flashlight.

Oyo-a allegedly shot Pardillo also, but was luckily spared.

The suspect also shot a certain Jhonny Laranio, 33, who was fishing that time. Laranio died on the spot, Espina said.

The pursuit continued even when Oyo-a went inside the drainage.

The police officers tried to crawl inside the drainage but they failed to arrest Oyo-a.

The suspect was brought to the hospital escorted by two police officers while waiting for appropriate charges to be filed against him.
