Fire destroys Talisay homes
CEBU, Philippines - Three houses were burned down yesterday morning in Sitio Neighborhood, Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City.
Fire investigators believed the fire was caused the houses being generally made of light materials, as well as the high atmospheric temperature.
According to Fire Officer 1 Pepe Hermosada, the houses were made of light materials. This made the fire spread quickly from one house to another.
Hermosada said the fire started in the house of a certain Manuel Montebon. Montebon, however, denied that the fire started in his house.
"Siguro sa kainit sa panahon, mao siguro ang hinungdan nganong nasunog ilabi na ang mga panimalay dihang dapita are made of light materials," Hermosada said.
Hermosada said they estimated the damage to reach P5,000 and the fire was set off after two minutes.
Fortunately, there were no reports of injury and casualty during the fire.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the warmest temperature recorded in Cebu City in recent days was 32.8 degrees Celsius last April 28.
Oscar Tabada of PAGASA in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City said the highest temperature recorded in Metro Cebu since 1970s was 37 degrees Celsius on May 31, 2010.
The dry season usually begins in February and ends in the later part of May, but this year, it came a little late in March, said the state weather bureau. (FREEMAN)
