CEBU, Philippines - The problem of road right of way is tagged reason of the delay on road widening projects implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways in Lapu-Lapu City and other areas in Metro Cebu.
Contractors who undertake the projects cited this as the main reason, along with bad weather, causing project delays.
In Lapu-Lapu City, Mayor Paz Radaza said DPWH officials should have first closely coordinated with the city government before they implemented the projects.
Radaza said the implementation of the national-funded projects is under the supervision of the DPWH, but Radaza said the city government is implicated if the projects are causing inconvenience to the public.
The city mayor cited the complaints raised by the riding public and beach resort owners in Lapu-Lapu City over the sluggish pace of a road widening project from Barangay Mactan up to Barangay Maribago.
"Ang DPWH mao'y nagpatuman sa maong proyekto apan ang reklamo sa mga tawo nga nahasul niini gipaabot sa atong buhatan," said Radaza.
Visiting tourists also lodged their complaints at Radaza's office, noting inconvenience the ongoing construction caused when they arrived in Lapu-Lapu City. (FREEMAN)
