CEBU, Philippines - An estimated P1.5 million in cash and jewelry was lost from a multicab dealer firm after it was burglarized during the weekend.
Fharurk Nadeem Ahmad, 47, owner of Softmore Cycle Traders International located at North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City sought police assistance after he discovered that his jewelry, which includes a necklace with diamond, a precious stone, 2.45 grams of gold, a bangle with diamond worth P1 million, 200,000 Japanese yen and P230,000 cash, were already missing in his steel cabinet inside his office.
The suspect was able to gain entry by forcibly opening the locked office door and steel cabinet.
Ahmad said that before he left his office last Friday, the missing items were still intact and he believed that it was stolen during the weekend.
Although the police have yet to identify the culprit, Amad believed that one of his security guards, identified as Keith Anthony Cabilin, could be involved in the burglary as he never reported back for work.
Amad said that he learned from another security guard, Cabilin's reliever, that the latter did not go home and slept at the firm's premises after his duty last Friday evening.
Senior Police Officer 2 Marcos Noval Jr., an investigator of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch, said during their investigation they also found out that last Monday morning, Cabilin was also supposed to report for duty but when he received a text coming from another security guard who informed him that the police were looking for him, he no longer showed up.
"Mo report na unta ni siya atong Lunes sa buntag, ni-text iyang kauban kon asa na siya ingon siya Parkmall na siya dapit…hapit na siya maabot, ug sa dihang nakadawat na pud siya og text nga naay mga polis nangita niya…gipawong na iyang cellphone ug dili na siya makontak," Noval said .
However, Noval added that they are also willing to hear the side of Cabilin.
But during their investigation, they learned from the firm's caretaker that he also saw Cabilin coming from the Ahmad's office before he left last Saturday morning.
A background check also showed that Cabilin has been transferring from one agency to another.
"Amo pud nahibaw-an nga manyempohay ni siya kay mabatyagan gani niya nga wa siya'y makuha sa lugar nga iyang gidutyhan, dili na dayon ni mo-report ug mobalhin og laing agency kon asa siya makatiyempo," Noval added.
It was Cabilin's fourth day of duty when the burglary incident took place. (FREEMAN)
