Mandaue City helps Medellin, Borbon towns anew

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City officials led by Mayor Jonas Cortes on Wednesday went to the towns of Medellin and Borbon in the northern part of Cebu to distribute relief packs to residents affected by last year's super typhoon.

Cortes, who was accompanied by some barangay officials, first visited Medellin town wherein they distributed relief packs and boxes in barangays Curva and Antipolo.

City officials turned over 165 relief packs and 120 relief boxes to Curva barangay captain Rudy Mondigo, while about 215 relief packs and 154 boxes of relief goods were handed to Antipolo barangay captain Dominador Saplad.

Borbon town, with which the city has fostered sisterhood ties, received 911 boxes of relief goods and 482 relief packs, which were turned over to Mayor Butch Sepulveda.

Each relief packs consists of  mosquito net, blanket , six adult toothbrushes, three children toothbrushes and toothpastes, while the big boxes contained assorted relief goods. The relief goods came from Guang Ju in South Korea, with which Mandaue City intends to become a sister-city.

This was the second time that the city officials went to these two towns to distribute aid as two weeks ago, Cortes and other city officials also went there to extend P400,000 cash assistance to Medellin and P500,000 to Borbon.

Cortes and the city officials are also scheduled to hand-in financial assistance to Tacloban City and neighboring towns in Leyte this Monday.

The Mandaue City has allocated a total of P8 million in financial assistance to different towns and cities in Cebu and Leyte which were hit by super typhoon Yolanda. (FREEMAN)
