CEBU, Philippines - That barangay officials have crucial role in mitigating the problem of illegal drugs prompted Lapu-Lapu City Police Chief Ray Lyndon Lawas to urge local officials to help identify drug pushers in their places.
“The campaign against illegal drugs needs the support and cooperation of the barangay officials,†Lawas said.
In an interview with reporters, Lawas said they have identified top five of the 30 barangays in Lapu-Lapu City where the problem of illegal drugs is very rampant.
Lawas said he already informed the barangay officials of the five barangays and personally appealed them to help identify those who were involved in the illegal trade in their respective places.
According to Lawa s, some of these drug pushers have established their links to other barangays and even outside Lapu-Lapu City.
Pajo barangay captain Junard "Ahong" Chan confirmed to The Freeman that Lawas and other police officials met him and discuss the problem of illegal drugs in his barangay.
Pajo was identified by Lawas as one of the top five barangays where trading of illegal drugs is widespread.
Chan said there are names that cropped up during their meeting, although he clarified that the names need further verification.
Chan assured Lawas and top police officials that he will support the police's efforts on intensifying campaign against illegal drugs. (FREEMAN)
