CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government plans to relocate families who live near seashores, creeks, and on riverbanks.
City Social Welfare Officer Felipa Solana said barangay Maghaway is being eyed as an evacuation center because of its elevation.
Solana said some of these residents reject the idea of moving to another place because they regularly depend on fishing to make money.
She said the city government has good intentions but it would take political will to demolish their houses.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said it will coordinate with local government units to enforce the no-build zone on coastal areas as instructed by President Aquino. (FREEMAN)
