In Talisay City Fishers’ group has new Chief

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes has named Greg dela Torre as the new head of the Fishermen Sea and Ecological Care (FISECA) in an expected overhaul of  the Executive Department.

De los Reyes said he is replacing Arturo “Jun” Aras after hearing reports he has done nothing to stop illegal fishing in the city.

Dela Torre was FISECA’s chief during the time of then mayor Socrates Fernandez.

Last year, a fishermen’s group filed a complaint against Aras before the offices of councilors Antonio Bacaltos, Jr. and Doroteo Emit.

Bacaltos is the chairman of the committee on environment in the city council with Emit as member.

The group claimed that illegal fishing in the city continues to flourish, which could endanger the Bangus Fish Cage project courtesy of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), which is located near the FISECA headquarters in Barangay Cansojong.

The group alleged that dynamite fishing almost takes place every day.

But Aras denied the allegation.
